Make & Donate Playdough – Support Occupational Therapy!

Did you know that playdough is a powerful tool for fine motor skill development and hand therapy in both adults and children? Occupational Therapists at public hospitals and clinics in Johannesburg use playdough in their therapy sessions, but funding is limited.

You can help by making and donating homemade playdough!

How Playdough Helps:

πŸ–οΈ Improves hand strength and dexterity for recovery and development
🎨 Encourages creativity and sensory play for children
πŸ₯ Supports therapy for both adults and children in need

Playdough Recipe

πŸ“Œ Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ΒΎ cup salt
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 2 cups lukewarm water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (coconut oil works too)
  • Food colouring
  • Small 250ml plastic container with lid (available at Westpack)

πŸ“Œ Instructions:

  1. Stir together the flour, salt, and cream of tartar in a large pot.
  2. Add the water and oil. (If making one colour, add food colouring now.)
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the dough thickens and forms a ball.
  4. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Knead until smooth.
  5. If adding colour later, divide the dough into portions and knead in the colour while inside a plastic bag to prevent staining.
  6. Store in airtight 250ml containers to keep it fresh.
